Project Approaches

Custom Mold Launch: Development Approach

A new bottle shape brings connected decisions about tooling, closure fit, decoration and launch timing. This development example shows how to define the design purpose, compare samples and carry the approved references into production.

Design challenge

Identify the silhouette or functional feature that available packaging cannot provide.

Tooling decision

Connect the drawing and production material with the scope of the new mold.

Trial review

Compare capacity, key interfaces and appearance on the appropriate sample versions.

Production reference

Keep the accepted drawing, closure and finished sample tied to the tooling revision.

01 / The development brief

Give the new mold a specific purpose

Custom tooling earns its place when the desired shape or feature cannot be achieved through a suitable existing format. PauPack helps connect the brand idea with a design review so the proposed mold addresses a real requirement. Identify the feature that needs new geometry and the details that can remain standard. This keeps the development conversation focused on what creates value for the product.

Bring a reference sample, drawing or visual direction together with the intended capacity, material and closure arrangement. The design team can then discuss the interfaces and production considerations that affect the proposal. A concept image communicates the idea; it does not establish a finished manufacturing specification.

02 / Design and tooling

Agree the work between concept and production

Discuss the drawings, tooling scope, trial samples and approval stages before committing to the route. Clarify ownership, permitted use, storage, maintenance and how revisions will be handled. These are project terms to agree with the selected parties, rather than assumptions attached to the word custom.

PauPack can coordinate the surrounding components and decoration while the structural work develops. The bottle should be reviewed with its pump or cap and supporting pack so a distinctive form does not create an unresolved assembly or packing problem.

03 / Approval records

Keep the launch tied to approved references

A trial sample provides information for the next decision. Record the sample identity, drawing version and issues that remain open, then agree what needs adjustment. When the finished assembly is ready for review, include decoration and packing where they are part of the supply scope. Production release should refer to the accepted specification and sample, with the commercial conditions and responsibilities understood. For a later size extension or tooling change, return to those references and review the affected parts of the system.

Packaging questions

Custom Mold Development — Questions & Answers

What should be settled before a new mold is commissioned?

Agree the structural brief, drawing route, tooling scope, trial sample process and the decisions that permit each stage to proceed. Discuss ownership, permitted use, maintenance and revisions in writing. The selected closure and decoration requirements should remain connected to the bottle design.

Is this a report of a completed customer order?

This guide explains how PauPack approaches the packaging challenge. It does not report a named customer order or claim a measured project outcome. Discuss your requirements with us to identify the relevant development route and available project-specific references.

What makes this tooling approach useful before commissioning a mold?

It brings geometry, components, sample gates and tooling terms into the same discussion. Use it to identify which decisions are still open on your project. The page describes a development approach, not a verified customer result or a promise of a particular launch outcome. Mold Development →

How do we keep a new mold connected to the approved design?

Keep the drawing revision, trial sample, bottle material and matching closure together. Review capacity, interfaces and appearance before release. If a trial changes the geometry or process, update the affected references and agree the next sample check before production.
